Assemble Recruitment is partnering with Palmerston North Airport Limited to appoint a Commercial & Asset Manager into a senior, commercially focused role responsible for contract, asset and commercial performance across a critical regional infrastructure asset.

This is not a traditional property or contracts role. The position sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, contract governance and asset lifecycle planning, and is suited to someone who enjoys driving performance while building strong, trusted relationships across tenants, suppliers and stakeholders.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will lead commercial and asset management across the airport’s operations, with close engagement across finance, infrastructure and operations.

You will oversee both customer and supplier contracts across the full lifecycle, from tendering and negotiation through to performance monitoring and renewal, ensuring value for money, compliance and strong commercial outcomes. A key focus will be developing and maintaining relationships with tenants, service providers and prospective partners, positioning the airport as a landlord and partner of choice.

You will also take ownership of asset management systems and lifecycle planning, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.

With a new terminal under development and a broader pipeline of projects underway, the airport is entering a significant growth phase. This role will support that expansion through strong commercial frameworks and disciplined asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial contract and asset management functions
  • Implement and manage asset and contract management systems
  • Oversee asset lifecycle planning, renewals forecasting and capital planning inputs
  • Manage customer and supplier contracts across tendering, negotiation and performance
  • Build strong relationships with tenants, prospective occupiers and service providers
  • Ensure value for money, risk management and regulatory compliance
  • Monitor contract performance against KPIs and service levels
  • Provide recommendations to senior leadership and the Board
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance and enhance asset value

About You

  • Experience in commercial, contract or asset management within infrastructure, property or similar environments
  • Strong understanding of contract structures including leases and service agreements
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in asset lifecycle planning and performance monitoring
  • Strong commercial, financial and risk management capability
  • Well‑developed negotiation and communication skills
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and preparing formal reporting
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused and collaborative approach

Why This Role

This is a rare opportunity to step into a commercially influential role within a critical infrastructure environment. With significant investment underway, you will play a key role in supporting the airport’s next phase of growth while helping shape its long‑term commercial and asset strategy.
