The New Zealand Qualifications Authority is seeking a People Advisor to join the Wellington-based team within the People Team, in the Pasifika and People Division.

We are looking for a generalist HR superstar to join our busy and customer-focused People team. This is a fixed term role to cover a period of parental leave, ending in October 2027.

Mo te turanga | About the role

Our friendly team is responsible for supporting and advising on a wide range of activities across the employment lifecycle.

We are ideally looking for someone who has broad experience across the spectrum of HR work.

You'll be across the day-to-day HR administration, support the wider team by providing practical, timely advice, and build broader generalist experience along the way.

In this varied, hands-on role, you will

  • Be a first point of contact for triaging queries and delivering timely, practical support to our customers.
  • Draft and maintain employment documentation and records.
  • Support People Partners with employee relations matters, including preparation of documentation and emails.
  • Coordinate key HR processes such as recruitment, onboarding, record management, and maintaining HR templates and process documentation.
  • Assist with HR projects and people initiatives, helping the team deliver improvements that matter.

Mo te turanga | About the role

  • Experience in an HR Advisor or Coordinator role (or similar), with a genuine interest in progressing into broader generalist HR.
  • A relevant HR qualification.
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, with confidence managing competing deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with a professional, service-led approach.
  • High attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential people matters.
  • Confident learning new systems and using MS Office suite.
