At Genesis, we’re always looking ahead - to new possibilities, smarter solutions, and a better energy future for Aotearoa New Zealand. Every role here plays a part in shaping what’s next, whether it’s through cutting-edge technology, bold thinking, or everyday excellence. If you’re driven by progress and inspired by purpose, this is your chance to be part of something remarkable. Step into a career where your actions today help power tomorrow.

What You’ll Do

We're looking for a Process Safety Engineer to join our LPG team in a newly created role, based in Hamilton with some travel required. Reporting to the LPG Asset Manager, you'll play a key role in strengthening how we identify, manage and reduce process safety risks across our operations.

This is an opportunity to build on our existing foundations, improve systems and processes, and influence how process safety is understood and managed across the business. You'll have the scope to drive meaningful improvements while working closely with people at every level, from frontline operations through to senior leadership.

  • Provide specialist process safety engineering advice and constructive challenge to LPG leadership and risk/control owners, including technical input to engineering projects, modifications and practical risk reduction measures.
  • Lead process safety risk assessments, Bowtie development and critical control improvements across LPG operations.
  • Support the effective implementation and continuous improvement of Management of Change, providing technical process safety input to operational and project changes.
  • Develop process safety reporting, dashboards and insights that support better risk-based decisions.
  • Plan and support audits, inspections and incident investigations, ensuring learnings translate into practical improvements.
  • Build process safety capability across LPG, working with operational teams, contractors, technical specialists and leadership to strengthen understanding and accountability.

What You’ll Need

You'll bring a strong understanding of process safety and, importantly, know how to apply it in a practical operational environment. You're comfortable getting out on site, asking the right questions and building trust with people from different backgrounds. You'll be proactive, organised and confident challenging existing practices while bringing others along with you.

  • At least five years' relevant engineering experience within an industrial or high-hazard environment, including practical experience in process safety and risk management.
  • A relevant engineering qualification and the technical capability to independently assess process safety risks and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience with process safety methodologies such as HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie or equivalent, along with risk management and critical control processes.
  • Experience supporting audits, investigations, assurance activities and continuous improvement in an operational setting.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, manage competing priorities and turn complex technical information into practical actions.

Experience in industries such as oil and gas, LPG, manufacturing, chemical processing or energy will be valuable. We're particularly interested in people who understand the realities of working in operational environments and can balance sound technical judgement with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
