In The Moment, For The Future

At Genesis, we’re always looking ahead - to new possibilities, smarter solutions, and a better energy future for Aotearoa New Zealand. Every role here plays a part in shaping what’s next, whether it’s through cutting-edge technology, bold thinking, or everyday excellence. If you’re driven by progress and inspired by purpose, this is your chance to be part of something remarkable. Step into a career where your actions today help power tomorrow.

What You’ll Do

With New Zealand's energy sector undergoing significant change, there's an opportunity to help shape the future of electricity generation. As our Resource Consenting Specialist you'll play a key role in securing and managing resource consents for Genesis Energy's existing and proposed generation assets, including renewable energy developments across solar, wind and emerging technologies. You'll work alongside experienced environmental, engineering and development specialists, providing the consenting expertise needed to progress projects and support our energy future.

Reporting To Our Environmental Planning And Projects Manager, You'll

  • Lead resource consenting activities for existing and proposed generation assets, through the consent preparation, application, and implementation lifecycle.
  • Provide specialist advice on Resource Management Act (RMA) requirements, assessing technical information, environmental effects and consenting implications.
  • Work closely with project, engineering and environmental teams to navigate consenting challenges and support new renewable energy developments.
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with mana whenua, regulatory authorities, local communities and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage external consultants and technical specialists, ensuring high-quality environmental assessments, planning advice and consenting outcomes.

Please note: While this role is internally titled Senior Environmental Advisor, we've adjusted the advertised title to better reflect the expertise and experience it requires. The role is ideally based in our Hamilton office, with occasional travel required, and we're open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

What You’ll Bring

You'll be an experienced resource consenting or environmental planning professional who enjoys working through complex challenges and finding practical solutions. You'll bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively with people from different disciplines and backgrounds. Whether your background is in consulting, local or central government, or industry, we're interested in the experience and perspective you could bring.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental or resource management, planning, environmental science or a related field.
  • Significant experience in resource consenting, planning or RMA-related work, ideally five years or more.
  • Strong knowledge of resource management legislation, including regional and district planning processes and statutory requirements.
  • Experience coordinating complex consenting or environmental projects, ideally large infrastructure projects, including managing technical inputs and external consultants.
  • Strong communication, relationship management and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
