Senior Accountant
Archway Recruitment
Archway Recruitment is partnering with a large, values-led organisation to recruit a Senior Financial Accountant for its Wellington-based finance team. This is much more than a conventional financial accounting position. While you will remain closely involved in month end, annual reporting and audit, the real opportunity is to help develop the organisation’s management accounting, modelling and business partnering capability.
The organisation has a clear direction of travel, but there is still plenty of white space around how it gets there. This creates an interesting opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the detail while also building reporting, systems and insights that support better decision-making.
About The Role
In this role you will provide strong financial accounting capability while helping build a more developed management accounting and business partnering function. You will need to be comfortable shifting between detailed accounting work and broader strategic priorities. One day may involve supporting month end or preparing audit information, while another could involve developing a long-term financial model, helping a manager understand a project budget or improving reporting for senior leadership. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the timely completion of month-end processes, and preparing accurate monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Taking ownership of the annual group audit process
- Managing statutory reporting and tax requirements
- Supporting budgeting, reforecasting and longer-term financial planning
- Developing cash flow, capital and membership-based financial models
- Providing practical financial advice to operational managers, and helping budget holders better understand their reports, budgets and financial responsibilities
- Supporting project budgeting, cost management and remedial action
- Preparing financial insights and reporting for leadership and governance.
- Identifying emerging financial risks, issues and opportunities
- Improving finance systems, reporting processes and internal controls
- Helping develop greater financial self-service across the organisation
- Supporting the future development of Power BI reporting capability
About You
About
The organisation is open-minded about the level and background of the successful candidate. You may be a CA+2-3 years PQE, or a highly experienced accountant with skills across financial and management accounting seeking an interesting position where your expertise will be genuinely valued. To be successful, you will ideally bring:
- CA Qualification (or similar)
- Strong financial and management accounting knowledge
- Experience preparing financial reports, budgets and forecasts
- An understanding of statutory reporting, taxation and audit requirements
- Financial modelling and analytical capability
- Experience partnering with non-finance stakeholders
- The ability to turn complex financial information into practical insights
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A methodical approach with excellent attention to detail
Experience with Power BI would be highly advantageous, although candidates with a genuine interest in developing reporting capability are also encouraged to apply.

- Enhanced parental leave, and long service leave policies
