He Angitūtanga / The Opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant / Food Service Assistant to join our team at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital in Christchurch. This is a Permanent Part-Time position offering guaranteed 21.5 hours per week.

The role includes evening food service shifts Tuesday to Thursday (3:30pm - 8:00pm) and a sandwich room assistant shift on Friday (6:30am - 3:00pm). This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive team environment within one of New Zealand's leading food services providers.

Ko o Kawenga / Your Responsibilities

• Assist with serving meals as part of the trayline food service team
• Prepare sandwiches and support food preparation activities
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety
• Wash dishes and ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned appropriately
• Respond to customer requests professionally and efficiently
• Support general kitchen, cleaning, and housekeeping duties

He Kōrero Mōu / About You

• Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen is preferred
• Food Safety Certificate (Unit Standard 167) is advantageous
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Friendly, reliable, and hardworking with a positive attitude
• Passion for food quality, customer service, and teamwork
• Able to follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures
