We are seeking an experienced and motivated Water Installer to join our team in a hands-on, field-based role supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of drinking water networks across the region.

This position is based on a minimum of 40 hours per week, with participation in after-hours and on-call work as required.

About The Role

As a Water Installer, you will work independently and as part of a team to install, repair, test and maintain drinking water reticulation assets in accordance with Council requirements, industry standards and Westroads' commitment to excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Installing, repairing and maintaining water reticulation networks, service connections, valves, hydrants and associated assets across the wider West Coast region.
  • Working with water pipes ranging from 20mm to 600mm diameter.
  • Diagnosing network faults and determining the most appropriate repair methods and materials.
  • Reading and interpreting plans, drawings, GIS mapping and asset information to safely plan and undertake works.
  • Installing, servicing and replacing network fittings and water-reticulation infrastructure.
  • Planning and carrying out water main isolations and shutdowns in accordance with operational procedures.
  • Undertaking pressure testing, flushing, commissioning and water-quality assurance activities.
  • Operating excavators and undertaking controlled excavation around existing underground services where required (desirable).
  • Accurately completing job records, testing documentation, asset updates and work reports using digital systems and mobile technology.
  • Maintaining vehicles, tools, plant and equipment to a high operational and safety standard.
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Mentoring apprentices and supporting less-experienced team members when required.
  • Building positive relationships with customers, Councils, contractors and members of the public.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for a skilled and reliable professional who takes pride in delivering quality work and contributing to safe and efficient operations.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Proven experience in water infrastructure installation and maintenance, including pipes, valves and hydrants up to 600mm diameter.
  • A National Certificate in Water Reticulation Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) is preferred, or a minimum of 3 years' relevant industry experience.
  • Sound knowledge of water-reticulation construction, maintenance and repair practices.
  • Understanding of Taumata Arowai drinking water requirements is highly desirable.
  • A current Class 2 driver's licence with W, T and F endorsements.
  • A Class 4 licence (desirable).
  • The ability to work independently, solve problems and make sound decisions in the field.
  • A willingness to participate in after-hours and on-call work when required.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
  • A commitment to working safely and helping us achieve operational excellence.
