We're looking for an experienced geotechnical engineer who's ready to step up: someone who wants ownership of technical delivery, enjoys bringing graduates and intermediates along, and is looking for a place where progression isn't capped by a hierarchy above them.

This is a senior technical role with genuine scope to grow. Where you take it is up to you, there's no ceiling here.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the technical delivery of geotechnical projects from investigation through to design, reporting and construction support
  • Preparing complex designs, reports and drawings for natural hazards, land development, subdivision and infrastructure projects
  • Mentoring and supporting graduate and intermediate engineers — reviewing their work, developing their judgement, and building their confidence in the field and at the desk
  • Reviewing reports, calculations and drawings to ensure recommendations are sound, defensible and fit for purpose
  • Interpreting field data, subcontractor results and GIS information into clear, well-reasoned engineering advice
  • Instructing and reviewing 2D and 3D drawings produced by CAD technicians
  • Day-to-day project management — scoping, programming and keeping work moving to time and budget

What you'll bring

  • An relevant engineering degree
  • 10+ years' geotechnical consulting experience
  • Working towards Chartered status (or already there)
  • A solid grasp of the New Zealand regulatory environment
  • Confidence with industry-standard geotechnical design software and a disciplined approach to quality assurance
  • A genuine interest in developing people, not just projects
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and how it applies in a consulting and site environment
