Matakana Estate is a boutique vineyard and hospitality destination in the heart of Matakana, bringing together wine, food, accommodation and unique guest experiences.

We are looking for a warm, capable and highly hands-on Lodge Host to take day-to-day ownership of our private vineyard Lodge and deliver an exceptional guest experience.

This is more than a traditional hosting role. You will look after the Lodge from end to end — welcoming guests, preparing and maintaining the property, managing housekeeping and supplies, identifying maintenance issues, and making sure everything is presented to a high standard.

You will also have the opportunity to help us develop the Lodge as an important and growing revenue stream for the Estate.

What you will do

Guest Experience

• Welcome guests and be their key point of contact during their stay
• Provide personalised service, local recommendations and thoughtful touches
• Introduce guests to our wine, Cellar Door, Bistro and Estate experiences
• Assist with breakfast, refreshments and special occasions
• Handle guest requests and resolve issues professionally

Lodge Operations

• Prepare the Lodge for guest arrivals and maintain a consistently high standard
• Take ownership of cleanliness, presentation, linen, amenities and supplies
• Carry out hands-on housekeeping and cleaning when required
• Regularly check the property, pool and guest facilities
• Identify and deal with minor maintenance issues, and coordinate contractors when needed
• Make sure the Lodge is always safe, functional and guest-ready

Revenue & Development

• Identify opportunities to enhance the guest experience and increase guest spend
• Promote relevant wine, dining and Estate experiences
• Help develop new Lodge packages and experiences
• Gather guest feedback and identify opportunities to improve the Lodge

About you

You don't need a management title or years of management experience. What matters is that you are responsible, practical, hands-on and genuinely care about hospitality and people.

We are looking for someone who is:

• Warm, friendly and naturally hospitable
• Highly organised and detail-oriented
• Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
• Practical and confident with housekeeping and day-to-day property issues
• Resourceful, proactive and able to solve problems
• Commercially aware and comfortable with upselling
• Passionate about hospitality, food, wine and the Matakana lifestyle
• Flexible to work weekends and around guest arrivals and departures
• Holding a full NZ driver's licence

Previous experience in hospitality, accommodation, housekeeping, property care or guest services is an advantage, but the right attitude and willingness to get hands-on are more important than a particular qualification or management background.
