HSEQ Advisor

We are looking for an experienced HSEQ Advisor to join our bus operations team to be part of our newly integrated multimodal operations. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely in support of Transdev’s Mana operations and will work as part of the wider rail and bus HSEQ team. This is a full-time role and is primarily located at our Newlands depot with the need to frequently travel to other depots within Wellington.
As a trusted advisor, you will partner with operational leaders to turn HSEQ requirements into practical actions that keep our employees, passengers and communities safe. You will support day-to-day HSEQ performance, drive continual improvement initiatives and help foster a positive safety culture across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical HSEQ advice, guidance and coaching to support operational leaders in meeting their safety, health, environmental and quality responsibilities.
- Support managers and frontline employees to identify hazards, assess risks and implement effective controls.
- Conduct regular workplace, depot and operational inspections and audits.
- Lead and support incident and near-miss investigations, identifying causes and corrective actions.
- Monitor safety performance, trends and leading indicators and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain and continually improve HSEQ policies, procedures, risk registers and management systems.
- Support compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and other relevant legislation and standards.
- Assist with critical-risk management across areas such as driving, fatigue, passenger incidents, manual handling, slips/trips, vehicle movements, workshops and contractor activities.
- Promote and support a positive safety culture that reflects our Safety First principles.
What You Bring
You are an experienced HSEQ professional who enjoys working in a dynamic operational environment and can build credibility with both frontline employees and senior leaders.
We are looking for:
- 5+ years’ experience in a Health & Safety, HSEQ or similar advisory role
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field and internal auditor qualification (preferable)
- Strong working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation
- Experience with incident investigation, risk management, audits and safety systems
- Effective and constructive communication, coaching and influencing skills.
- Strong ability to build and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Confidence working independently while also contributing to a wider HSEQ team.
- Experience in transport, logistics, infrastructure, heavy industry or another operational environment (preferable)
- A current full and clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
