Maintenance Technician

Hynds Pipe Systems Limited

Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Christchurch, Canterbury
Contract type: Full time

PKS Civil designs and manufactures large-scale PE and PP pipe and fabricated structures for drainage, stormwater and wastewater projects across New Zealand. It's a busy, modern manufacturing site — and our plant is only as good as the people who keep it running.

That's where you come in. We're after a Maintenance Technician who knows their way around machinery, keeps a cool head when something goes down, and takes real pride in fixing things properly. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you'll be the go-to for keeping our plant reliable, safe and productive.

About The Role

No two days are quite the same. One day you're working through planned maintenance; the next you're diagnosing a breakdown and getting production moving again. You'll:

  • Keep the plant running — carry out planned, preventive and reactive maintenance across all machinery so production stays available and on track.
  • Respond fast to breakdowns — get to faults quickly, make the repair, and return equipment to service with minimal downtime.
  • Fault-find and fix the root cause — troubleshoot defects across plant and tools, and solve the underlying problem, not just the symptom.
  • Get ahead of failures — plan and build out preventive maintenance so more work is scheduled and less is firefighting.
  • Keep spares and the workshop in order — manage spares stock and ordering, book parts and oils to the right job, and keep the workshop clean, tidy and safe.
  • Own safety on the floor — follow PPE, isolation and risk practices, and report near misses and observations fast so everyone heads home well.

About You

  • 2+ years keeping machines running in a maintenance role
  • Solid mechanical or electrical aptitude — you're confident diagnosing faults and making the repair
  • A trade qualification (mechanical / engineering / fitter-turning or similar) is a bonus, not a must-have
  • A practical, can-do approach and genuine curiosity to learn
  • Comfortable with manual handling and working in confined spaces
  • Safety-first, every time

Benefits

  • Health insurance (subject to eligibility criteria)
  • Access to company partner discounts
  • Employee Assistance Programme
