Senior Accountant
Yovich Advisory Limited
Client Partner | Yovich Advisory | Whang ā rei, Northland
Are you an experienced public practice accountant who wants more client ownership, stronger advisory exposure, and the chance to help clients make better business decisions?
Yovich Advisory is a boutique accounting and business advisory practice based in central Whangārei. We work closely with local businesses, trusts, companies, and growth-focused clients, combining practical accounting and tax expertise with commercially minded advice and long-term client relationships.
We are looking for a capable Client Partner to join our team. This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who can take ownership of a portfolio, keep work moving, communicate well with clients, and contribute to the continued growth and efficiency of the firm.
A Modern Advisory Practice
We are building a modern, technology-enabled practice that uses cloud systems, workflow tools, automation, outsourcing support, and clear client communication to reduce friction, improve turnaround times, and create more space for meaningful advisory work.
This role is about more than producing accounts. It is about understanding clients, spotting issues early, and helping clients make better decisions through clear, practical advice.
Why Yovich Advisory?
We are a people-first, values-led accounting and advisory practice focused on delivering smarter solutions and better business outcomes for our clients. Our values, Own IT, Fun, Leading, Authentic, Family, and Agility, show up in how we follow through, communicate early, support each other, improve systems, and care about our clients and community.
About the Role
As a Client Partner, you will deliver high-quality compliance work while building trusted client relationships and identifying practical advisory opportunities. The work spans annual accounts, tax returns, GST and other IRD-related matters, management reporting, cashflow forecasting, and business advisory support.
You will be part of a collaborative team that values accuracy, timely communication, proactive job management, and continuous improvement. The role is full-time and based at our Whangārei office, with semi-flexible hours between Monday and Friday.
This Role Would Suit You If...
- You are currently working as a Senior Accountant, Client Manager, Assistant Manager, or experienced public practice accountant.
- You enjoy client ownership and want to be trusted to manage relationships, not just complete tasks.
- You like working in a team where accuracy, responsiveness, and follow-through matter.
- You are commercially curious and enjoy turning compliance work into useful conversations with clients.
- You are comfortable with technology and interested in improving systems, templates, processes, and workflow.
- You want the lifestyle benefits of Whangārei and Northland while still doing quality client work in a progressive practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear, timely, and professional communication.
- Prepare and review annual accounts, tax returns, GST, FBT, and other compliance work.
- Manage job workflow, budgets, time recording, and client expectations to support quality delivery and reduce write-offs.
- Identify opportunities to add value for clients through advisory conversations, process improvements, and practical commercial insights.
- Prepare management reports, cashflow forecasts, and other advisory outputs within agreed scope and quality standards.
- Work effectively with internal team members and outsourced providers.
- Contribute to team development, knowledge sharing, templates, systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- At least 3 years' experience in public practice accounting.
- Strong technical capability across annual accounts, tax returns, and management reporting.
- Excellent client communication and relationship management skills.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Confidence using Xero.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to take ownership and follow through.
- Confidence identifying advisory opportunities and discussing these with the wider team.
- CA qualification preferred, or working towards it. CPP eligibility or interest would be an advantage but is not essential.
Growth, Flexibility and Future Opportunity
You will join a supportive team in central Whangārei, with the opportunity to grow your technical, client relationship, and advisory skills. We support professional development through mentoring, technical learning, systems improvement, and exposure to advisory and project-based work.
For the right person, this role could form part of a longer-term senior leadership or ownership pathway within the firm. We are open to discussing what that could look like with a candidate who brings the right capability, values fit, and long-term commitment.
