Health and Safety Business Partner

Mō te tūranga | About the role

• You will be partnered with two Directorates to embed strong, practical health and safety practices that support organisational goals.
• The directorates you support are responsible for, but not limited to: engineering, biosecurity, biodiversity, flood response, environmental science & monitoring.
• Influence how work is done every day by championing safe, healthy and sustainable ways of working.
• Provide expert advice and coaching to managers on risk management, incident investigation and legislative obligations.
• Lead health and safety programmes, critical risk reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the development and ongoing effectiveness of the Health and Safety Management System.

• Trusted health and safety professional with strong business partnering capability.
• Advanced technical knowledge with strong interpersonal skills.
• Confident coaching and influencing leaders.
• Pragmatic and solution‑focused.
• Excellent written and verbal communicator.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

• Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety or Safety Management.
• NEBOSH certificate
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Experience in risk assessment, auditing and investigation.
• Local government experience is desirable, but not essential.

• Reporting to the Health, Safety & Wellbeing manager, work alongside the H&S Advisor to deliver organisational H&S initiatives.
• The role is part of the wider People & Capability team, encompassing Learning & Development and Human Resources.
