We are looking for someone full of energy to keep up with children and youth. Looking for experience working with challenging behaviours preferably in the mental health and disability space, someone that enjoys a challenge and thrives under pressure.

Every person with a disability deserves a life of freedom, choice and independence. We are looking for someone who wants to help children and youth with disabilities to maximise their potential. We are on the look-out for passionate, committed people to work with us in our respite homes, providing support to an amazing bunch of children and young people from ages 5-21 years old. We provide diverse support options, from working with babies and children through to providing crisis support for youth. The children have challenging behaviours and require personal care.

The children we support go to school during the day and as such, this role may involve split shifts (early mornings/late afternoon and onward), in additional to weekend and sleepover shifts. We require someone with full availability to work all shifts.

What do you need?

  • A Full New Zealand Driver's License
  • Experience supporting children or youth (aged 5-21 years old), and/or people with disabilities and/or dealing with very challenging behaviours
  • The ability to communicate effectively with your colleagues and the people you support (including effective use of technology/computer skills)
  • The empathy and willingness to support people with daily living tasks, personal cares, goals, dreams and aspirations
  • To be fit enough for a moderately active role
  • Availability to work on a rotating roster Monday through to Sunday

  • Empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disability
  • Energy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lot
  • Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations
  • Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety
  • Good at explaining and negotiating
  • Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support
  • Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
  • Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work
  • Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence
  • Able to pass a NZ police check and Oranga Tamariki check
  • The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email

Requirements

If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:

  • Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or
  • A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
