STUDENT - GEOSPATIAL SPECIALIST CDEM

The effectiveness of Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) relies on its ability to not only respond to emergencies but also to identify, evaluate and provide potential solutions or mitigation actions to more strategic or long-term issues of concern before an emergency occurs. We're looking for someone who is an enthusiastic and proactive student with GIS skills, an eye for detail and a proven track record of delivering high-quality results. As well as someone who is interested in using geospatial data to support infrastructure resilience, risk reduction, and effective information sharing across the lifeline utility organisations within Waikato region.
Mō te tangata | About you
- Currently in post-grad or final year(s) of a Spatial/GIS, computer science or information technology, geography, resource management, environmental planning or a related field degree that includes substantial GIS.
- Familiarity with GIS principles and experience using the ESRI ArcGIS suite, particularly ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, demonstrated through study or practical application.
- Strong data management and processing skills.
- Excellent communication skills- written and verbal.
- Enjoys working with data and keen to applying technical skills to real-world challenges.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
- Fixed-term, part-time position, 30 hours per week, starting 2 November 2026 and ending 12 February 2027.
- You will be working alongside the Waikato CDEM Group GIS Specialist and the Waikato Lifeline Utilities Group Programme Manager.
- You will support the review, maintenance and enhancement of relevant datasets, databases and information management for the Waikato Lifeline Utilities Group.
- You will be integrating new and updated spatial data and attributes from lifeline utility member organisations into existing datasets.
