STUDENT - MARITIME SAFETY

Work alongside our Maritime Services team to deliver boating safety information by engaging with the public, carrying out pre-voyage safety surveys, and providing education around the busy waterways of the Waikato region. You will assist the team in their efforts to maintain safe and navigable waterways across the region, while also working alongside other summer students to deliver biosecurity information on our inland waterways.

Mō te tangata | About you

• May suit someone studying NZ Maritime School, Marketing, Communications, Marine.
• You will need to be physically fit and have a full drivers licence.
• You will need to be a confident communicator able to talk to all demographics.
• You will need to be comfortable in working from a vessel, boat ramps, and lakeside reserves communicating directly with the public.
• You will need to be available for work most weekends with your days off during the week.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

• Fixed-term, full time position, ending 5th February 2027
• After a period of training, tasks will include travelling to boating hot spots around the region and engaging directly with the public on boat ramps or at events, providing safety information while recording interactions in a survey.
• You will be working alongside another student and reporting to the Waikato Regional Harbourmaster.
• You will be assisting in the creation of content for the Harbourmaster Facebook page.
• You will be providing support to the Maritime Services team acting as crew when conducting education and enforcement patrols.
• The position is based from Hamilton and will involve daily travel across the region and include the weekends.
