Behind every great organisation is a team that keeps the wheels turning, the buildings operating safely, and the assets performing at their best. We're looking for an organised, practical, and proactive Property Officer to join our Corporate Assets & Data team in Whakatāne or Tauranga.
This is a varied and highly visible role where no two days are the same. One day you might be coordinating building maintenance and overseeing contractors, the next you'll be purchasing and fitting out new vehicles or ensuring our asset information is accurate and up to date.
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role
You'll help manage and coordinate the operational performance of Council's, fleet, plant, and facilities assets, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating building, fleet, and plant maintenance work.
- Organising contractors and suppliers.
- Managing leases and relationships with landlords and tenants.
- Monitoring asset condition and maintaining accurate asset information.
- Purchasing new vehicles, plant and equipment.
- Responding to service requests and resolving to operational issues.
- Ensuring health and safety and legislative requirements are met.
- Procuring goods and services to support council activities.
- Building strong relationships with staff, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders.
Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience
You'll be someone who:
- Has experience managing or coordinating buildings or vehicles.
- Has procurement or contract management experience.
- Has experience managing contractors and maintenance programmes for facilities, fleet or asset-related activities.
- Is highly organised and methodical.
- Has good digital and financial literacy.
- Can confidently prioritise competing demands.
- Builds positive working relationships with a wide range of people.
- Is comfortable working independently while being part of a collaborative team.
- Able to travel frequently around the region.
- Remains calm and solutions-focused when unexpected issues arise.
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
A relevant qualification in facilities management, fleet management, asset management or a related discipline would be advantageous, but practical experience and demonstrated capability are equally important.
