Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a Road Maintenance Operator to join our IDC team in Waikato. This is a hands-on role at the heart of our maintenance and operations programme, helping keep the State Highway network safe, reliable, and running well.

You’ll carry out cyclic and reactive maintenance across corridor assets including barriers, signs, pavements, and drainage. From pothole repairs to sweeping operations, you’ll be part of a team doing Good Work that matters every day.

This role suits someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in doing the job properly, and is ready to switch on when it counts for safety, quality, and delivery.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

  • Carry Out routine and reactive maintenance across the network

  • Repair, Clean, and replace corridor assets including signs, barriers, and drainage components

  • Complete pothole repairs, minor surface works, sweeping, vegetation work, and general asset upkeep

  • Operate maintenance vehicles, plant, and tools safely while supporting labouring tasks as needed

  • Maintain accurate work records and complete equipment checks, pre-starts, and tailgates

  • A Full, clean driver licence, with Class 2 an advantage

  • Experience in civil, infrastructure, or general maintenance work, or a solid understanding of maintenance practices

  • A Practical, hands-on approach and the ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role

  • A Strong focus on safety, with the ability to use tools, plant, and equipment safely and effectively

  • A Team-focused attitude, good attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and grow
