Product Owner - Transaction Monitoring - Financial Crime Tribe
ASB Bank
Product Owner – Transaction Monitoring
At ASB, we're all about doing what we can to help our customers get one step ahead. As a Product Owner within our Financial Crime Tribe, you'll play a key role in protecting ASB, our customers, and the wider financial system by helping shape and deliver the technology and services that underpin our Transaction Monitoring capability.
This is an opportunity to join a team tackling meaningful challenges at the intersection of product, technology, data, risk, and regulation. You'll work with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver outcomes that matter, while helping ensure ASB continues to meet its regulatory obligations and evolve its financial crime capability for the future.
About the Squad
The Transaction Monitoring squad is responsible for the technology, services, and data that help identify potentially suspicious activity across ASB. The team works closely with Financial Crime Operations, Financial Crime Analytics, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to ensure critical monitoring capabilities remain effective, reliable, and fit for purpose.
As the squad continues to evolve, there is a strong focus on delivering regulatory commitments, improving customer and business outcomes, and leveraging technology and data to create more effective financial crime controls. You'll join a collaborative team that values partnership, problem-solving, and delivering meaningful outcomes in a highly important area of the bank.
About the Role
As Product Owner, you'll be responsible for defining priorities, managing delivery, and ensuring the squad delivers outcomes that create value for customers, stakeholders, and ASB. You'll bring together business, technology, risk, and operational perspectives to make informed decisions, balance competing priorities, and guide delivery through an evolving regulatory landscape.
This role will see you leading both strategic and delivery-focused initiatives, including significant regulatory programmes, while maintaining a clear focus on customer value, service performance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the squad roadmap, ensuring priorities align with business, customer, and regulatory objectives.
- Lead delivery of initiatives and regulatory commitments, ensuring outcomes are achieved within agreed timeframes.
- Partner closely with stakeholders across Financial Crime, Operations, Analytics, Technology, and Risk functions.
- Drive prioritisation decisions, balancing customer value, delivery effort, risk, and technical considerations.
- Manage and maintain a healthy, outcome-focused backlog to support predictable delivery.
- Identify, manage, and resolve delivery impediments, risks, and escalations.
- Champion continuous improvement across products, processes, and ways of working.
- Ensure services remain operationally sound, compliant, and aligned with governance requirements.
- Support discovery, validation, and continuous improvement activities to improve customer and business outcomes.
About You
You're a confident Product Owner who enjoys bringing people together to solve complex problems and deliver meaningful outcomes. You combine strong product thinking with practical delivery experience and can confidently navigate environments where risk, compliance, technology, and stakeholder expectations must all be carefully balanced.
You'll be comfortable working in highly regulated environments and understand the importance of delivering high-quality outcomes where accuracy, control, and compliance are critical. Most importantly, you'll be someone who can build strong relationships, influence effectively, and help teams focus on what matters most.
Key Skills and Experience
- Experience delivering complex initiatives within highly regulated industries such as banking, financial services, insurance, government, utilities, or other risk-focused environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build alignment across diverse groups.
- Experience leading prioritisation, roadmap development, and backlog management.
- Strong understanding of technology delivery and the ability to work effectively with engineering and technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to balance customer outcomes, business objectives, delivery considerations, and risk requirements.
- Experience delivering regulatory, compliance, risk, or control-related initiatives would be highly regarded.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
- Familiarity with agile delivery practices and cross-functional squad environments.
- Financial Crime or Transaction Monitoring experience is beneficial, but not essential.
