The Office of the Chief Executive sits at the centre of the strategic leadership and decision-making of Te Kura. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Board, Senior Leadership Team and key internal Kaimahi (staff), the team provides internal and external communications, planning and reporting, data analysis, strategic and operational policy development, risk management, legislative compliance and executive support.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

The Principal Advisor - Planning and Reporting reports to and works closely with the Chief Advisor Strategy, to lead effective school-wide planning and monitoring and reporting processes. This is a key position, where you will be responsible for the organisation's planning, monitoring and reporting cycle, ensuring strategic plans, annual plans, Board reporting and annual reporting are delivered to the highest standard. This role provides an opportunity to influence decisions and contribute to the vision of Te Kura.

Te Kura are looking for someone who operates at principal advisor level and is comfortable working independently in a complex public sector environment. Success in this role will come from your ability to anticipate what's coming, identify risks and opportunities early, prepare leaders ahead of time, and keep critical planning and reporting processes moving without needing direction. You'll work closely with the Data and Analytics team senior leaders to provide robust advice, present options, support decision-making and ensure Te Kura remains focused on improving outcomes for ākonga. This is a role where initiative, judgment and trusted advice are highly valued.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Proven experience in similar roles at a senior level
  • Demonstrable ability to see the big picture and achieve alignment with strategic organisational goals
  • Strong problem resolution skills with the ability to anticipate and resolve problems, working with others across diverse perspectives
  • A commitment to building your knowledge and skills across tikanga and te reo Māori
